Analyst Company ISG Bestows Leader Designations to Deutsche Telekom in the Nordics

Deutsche Telekom (DT) features prominently in the recently-released June 2021 Nordics ISG Provider Lens™ quadrant study. The study introduces six quadrants under the “Network — Software Defined Solutions and Services 2021” category as follows:

  • Managed SD-WAN Services
  • Transformation Services (Consulting and Implementation)
  • SD-WAN Equipment and Service Suppliers (DIY)
  • Technology and Service Suppliers (core – 4G/5G)
  • Edge Technologies and Services
  • Enterprise 5G Solutions

The ISG Provider Lens™ quadrants are created using an evaluation matrix containing four segments (Leader, Product Challenger, Market Challenger and Contender), and the providers are positioned accordingly.

Deutsche Telekom was given the highest evaluation, Leader, in four of the six quadrants: Managed SD-WAN Services, Transformation Services, Technology and Service Suppliers, and Edge Technologies and Services.

Managed SD-WAN Services: Mature and robust portfolio

The study praised DT for three main strengths in Managed SD-WAN Services:

  • Proprietary migration methodology to enhance cost benefit
  • Structuring SD-WAN roadmap for digitally conservative clients
  • All-inclusive SD-WAN solution to accelerate enterprise digital transformation

Overall, ISG found that “DT has a mature and robust portfolio of SD-WAN offerings that meet the requirements of most Nordic-based enterprise clients.”

SD-WAN Equipment and Service Suppliers (DIY): Expansive portfolio of end-to-end solutions

Deutsche Telekom found favor with its SDN Transformation Services in these primary areas:

  • Consulting-led approach to migration ensuring future-proof and holistic service
  • Extensive partnership and research-driven product conceptualization
  • End-to-end SD-WAN deployment governed by proof-of-concept (POC) outcomes

ISG summarized as follows: “DT offers extensive, advisory-driven professional functions, together with an expansive portfolio of end-to-end solutions to global as well as regional, Nordic-based enterprises.”

Technology and Service Suppliers (core – 4G/5G): Go-to partner by Nordic-based enterprises

In the Technology and Service Suppliers quadrant, DT excelled at:

  • Involvement in the public blockchain ecosystem through hosting of nodes and staking services
  • Distributed network prowess fortified by industrial engineering DNA
  • Automation-heavy “canned” offerings configured for specific verticals with challenging environments
  • Holistic 5G campus network solution to align clients with upcoming business models:

ISG noted that “With its expertise spanning every segment of the core network, DT is considered as a go-to partner by Nordic-based enterprises for impelling digital elements.”

Edge Technologies and Services: Prominent player in the Nordics market

When it comes to Edge Technologies and Services, DT’s strengths are:

  • Integrated campus solution to vitalize low latency, high volume on-site data processing and security
  • Embracing the OpenStack with EdgAIR wireless edge platform

ISG says, “A strong IT infrastructure backbone has enabled DT to become a prominent player in the edge technologies segment in the Nordics market. Its edge framework and partner-friendly solution architecture allows the integration of solution partners, which can benefit from DT’s market reach and hyperscaler integration.”
