The Situation
To enable the digital transformation, Vanderlande decided to move from its existing MPLS- and VPN-based WAN infrastructure to a future-proof SD-WAN solution in 2021. The list of requirements for this new solution was quite demanding: more flexibility for connecting locations around the world, lower total cost of ownership, better network performance and a real-time dashboard for providing transparency of the entire network.
The Solution
Telekom SD-WAN based on Aryaka
With the customer's requirements and ambitions in mind, Deutsche Telekom proposed to first run a Proof-of-Value (PoV) with an Aryaka-based SD-WAN solution. This allowed Vanderlande to test whether their planned transition to SD-WAN would deliver the expected results. The PoV consisted of connectivity between their sites in Australia, China, Canada and the data center in the Netherlands. After the successful Proof-of-Value, Vanderlande rolled out the SD-WAN solution to 50 of their sites worldwide.
"We approached Deutsche Telekom Global Business to address the application performance issues between and within regions in Asia Pacific and North America that we were experiencing. The Proof-of-Value was successful and confirmed our requirements. The SD-WAN solution is flexible, scalable and cost-effective and enables our IT organization to support the productivity needs of our workforce. We have now rolled it out to 50 sites worldwide."
The Result
The SD-WAN solution delivers Vanderlande stable and reliable network connectivity with end-to-end WAN optimization, ensuring optimal performance of applications migrating to a centralized environment or to the cloud. This is achieved through the flexible use of local Internet circuits connected to a guaranteed global private layer 2 backbone with high availability and low latency.
In addition, the Aryaka-based solution mitigates the risk of unexpected performance issues that international companies often face when using unmanaged Internet access to connect to mission-critical applications that are either centralized or migrated to the cloud.
Thanks to the SD-WAN solution, Vanderlande saves up to 25% bandwidth due to data compression. The solution enables the deployment and installation of sites within days instead of months, and provides real-time visibility into their network and applications.
